Question

I have a 2004 Hyundai Santa-fe with 152,000 miles. The timing belt was just changed about 15,000 miles ago. The car has been running fine. My wife called and said it just quit. When I got to the car I tried to start it and it started right up, but the check engine light was still on. I started to drive it home and got about 200 feet before it quit and wouldn't restart. I towed it home and put the code reader on it and the following info came up. PO 0446 EVAP emission control system vent circuit malfunction, and PO 0335 Crankshaft position sensor A circuit malfunction. Can you point me in the right direction for what I need to replace. I do all my own maintenance, including changing the timing belt on the vehicale. I have all the tools and have worked as a Marine Diesel mechanic in the navy for 30 years. Thanks. Dave

Hello and welcome to Just answer.com, Super mechanic here. About your vehicle.

DTC P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION
The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor consists of a magnet and coil located next to the flywheel. The voltage signal from the CKP sensor allows the Engine Control Module (ECM) to determine the engine of the RPM and Crankshaft Position.

The P0446 is an evap canister close valve malfunction, (not going to make the engine shut off) but could be a bad valve. I will give you a link for the test for it. However, you will want to replace the crankshaft position sensor first.
