Question

I had recently contracted chlamydia after having unprotected intercourse several times with one girl and i started symptoms shortly thereafter. I had only been with her in the last 15 months and the person before that i used protection. The recent girl went yesterday to urgent care to be tested and the doctor told her she can usually tell just by looking at the discharge wether someone could have it and it didn't look like she did, but she did the test anyway and we are awaiting results. She is the only person i have EVER had unprotected intercourse with. my question is is how likely is it that i got it from her, even if she has no symptoms, because i will be very disturbed and baffled if she comes back negative because i will have no clue how i could have contracted it...... Thanks, Drew

Hello,

More than 50% of women have no symptoms of chlamydia.
If you have never had unprotected intercourse with any other person, you must have gotten the infection from her.
Visual inspection of the vagina/cervix and discharge is not a good way to diagnose chlamydia.
Not every woman who has chlamydia has a discharge.

The only other possibility would be that you were misdiagnosed. Misdiagnosis would be unlikely if you had urine testing or urethral swabs done.

Feel free to ask any follow up questions you may have.

That is pretty much what i had come to as well. She told me she recently had a UTI and was given antibiotics for it. Could that have unwittingly killed chlamydia as well that would give her a negative result? and also could i have had it for years and spotaneously started mild symptoms and not passed it on to her?

thanks, that is the conclusion i came to as well. She recently had a uti and was given antibiotics for it. Could that have killed the chlamydia without her knowing? and is it possible i have had it for years and just started mild symptoms spontaneously and not passed it on to her?

Men can have asymptomatic infections too, yes. So it is possible that you have had it for a long time and just now developed symptoms. And it is possible that you didn't pass it on to her, but it is good that she was tested because untreated infections in women can lead to infertility (not in men, though).

As far as her being treated for the UTI, it would depend on the antibiotic she was given.
Levaquin, ofloxacin, zithromax, erythromycin or doxycycline would have treated her. Other drugs would not.
