Question

My 14 week chihuahua puppy started throwing up about an hour ago and started having diarrhea. It looks like there is blood in both. I can't get her to eat or drink. I have squirted some water down her throat with a syringe. She at one point lost control of her bowels. The most recent vomit has been a whitish foam. What do I do? My vet is not open yet.

Hello and thanks for researching this very important question...I am so sorry that your Little One is so sick this morning.

Your pup's symptoms are quite serious, so as soon as the vet is available she should be seen as an emergency.

If the vomit has stopped, you can give a teaspoon of water every 1/2 hour...if she is still vomiting, then forcing anything into the stomach will make things worse. She should be put on an IV at the hospital if she can't stop vomiting.

In order to keep her blood sugar from dropping dangerously low, wipe a very small amount of corn syrup or pancake syrup on her gums every 1/2 hour until you can get her looked at.
