Question

I gave my 5 year old female spayed American pittbull Tylenol tonight. I need to know if it is ok. The Tylenol was a 500mg, (1) pill given at 9:30 pm MST. She is currently being treated for questionable food allergies, along with a bacterial skin infection. Current meds: Simplicef 100mg 1.5 tabs a day. Pentoxifylline 400mg 2 tabs a day. Please advice if you can. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!

Hi,

Tylenol is not recommended to be given to dogs, except under a vet's supervision, as toxicity can result from overdose. Considering your dog's breed, she most likely weighs enough to tolerate the one 500 mg. pill without severe toxic effects, however, because acetaminophen is considered toxic to dogs in general, and she is currently on two other medications, it would be advisable to have your dog evaluated by a vet, as soon as possible.
