Answer

The 944 doesn't have an actual distributor, the rotor is turned bu the cam, and the cap is bolted on to the top piece of the timing belt cover. If you think the timing here is of, then your cam timing is off, you need to check and make sure the timing belt is installed properly and properly timed

Am certain I turned the belt and placed it top dead center, marked the belt top dead center placed the new cam and the belt went right back same mark same slot everything. I am certain of that just runs bad but the longer i run it the better it runs. The cylinder had water standing in it when I pulled the head off/ i cleaned it all up and placed the new head on, set the cam top dead center and it started right up. it just has no power/ runs rough.??? i am questioning if the belt slipped when it got hot? i am at a loss?

Answer

It souns like either your timing is off, or you may have bent a valve, marking the belt is not the best way to make sure your timing is on, it could have slipped on th bottom pulley when you had it all appart, or when you adjust the tension, it can move the cam

The valve you are talking about is up in the cam assembly correct? I have yet to run the car over 3000 rpm just because of the vavles. Like I said it is firing on all cylinders but number 3

Accepted Answer

Yes, one of the intake, or exhaust valves, check the timing first, and if it is good, you will need to do a compression, and cylinder leak down test
