Question

I am having problems with a clients HP pavilion Entertaiment Laptop PC. Model number Pavilion dv6000. When I power the system on, the lights turn on but there is a blank screen. I am not sure if it is the screen itsself or the inverter board. There is no audio faults(beeps) and no messages on the screen. The screen is totally blank. The cd/dvd drive works and the harddrive works also but no screen function. I have tried to boot pressing f9 to set the bios defaults as well as f10 as I turned the power switch on but no luck. I also did the same when I removed the battery and powered up with just the ac power. I also checked the memory modules and reseated them with the same results... no video. Any suggestions or solutions I may have overlooked. Thanks

How many modules are present in the system. If more than one, try to test with a single module at a time.

If there are no beep sound, look at the indicators and look for any flashing indicator

I have removed the memory module and powered up system. no indicators, no beeps or flashing indicators, same when I tested each module. there are 2 and i tested each. Nothing happened, no indicators. The system as a whole seems to power down and start bback up every 35 seconds or so. The power light and all system lights blink off then back on.

Accepted Answer

From the tests, I think the following is true

1 The system does not beep when starting without memory

2 It automatically power downs and then starts after every 35-40 seconds.

The next step will be to test the charger. If you have a multimeter, you can test the voltage output of the charger and match it with its specs.

If the charger is good, then it is a motherboard problem.

The reason is, if the system board is working properly, you should get some beep sounds when trying to start without any memory.

Also, it is unlikely that both the memory modules will become faulty at the same time.
