I just got a letter from my Dr. That my pap smear showed HPV. How could this be? I have been with the same man for 9 years. can this lay dormant?

Thanks for input,

This infection is transmitted sexually, either of the two partners carring the infection can infect other.

most of the strains of the HPV do not cause cancers and they only need regular Pap smears to keep an eye on the progress.

What I am asking is this something you carry with you and pops up. I just had a pap smear etc. with no problem i9n June of 20008.

HPV virus is a risk factor for cervical cancer but many of its types are harmless.

Around 20 million people in USA have this infection.
