my 7 yr old long haird chihuahua has a croupy cough that we maybe hear once a day. belly hot to touch what can i do to help him

Hello, XXXXXX. Thanks for your question. One quick thing first: Do not give him Tylenol of any kind. Dogs cannot tolerate it and it can cause severe problems, especially the liver. So I can better assist you, I have a few questions. How long has the cough been going on? Does it happen after any type of activity or just randomly? How is his appetite & energy? Where in the country do you live and has he been on heartworm prevention regularly? Thank you in advance.

its been like 3 days its after he plays with my other dog most of the time but it is random sometime. he is not on any heartworm prevention at this time. energy is high in morning and about 5 oclock every night all he wants to do is snuggle and go to sleep

Thank you for your response. What part of the country do you live in and when was the last time period was he on heartworm prevention on a regular basis? (This isn't to say it is heartworm; it will just help knowing this information.) Is the cough productive at all? (Does he cough up anything?) Is his appetite normal? Thanks again!

i live in dallas texas and i think i gave him heart worm in may or june dont remeber had family and personal issues then. nothing is ever coughed up. hes eats about 80% of what he normally does
