Question

pc crashed. Restored but lost programs incl. WP 8. No longer had orig.disc so ordered WP 8 that has 2 discs.Installd 1st one that had long list of info and seem remember to go to Explorer and right click for Quick View-didn't work. When I click on a document get msg it is wpd doc and chose from list. chose wordpad or notepad and get gibberish. Can't compose either and no icon on desktop. Sent in regist. card yesterday and # is PW8XR-994F020. Can U help?/r.merrit email XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

Already Tried:
Tried Explorer to get "Quick View". Tried opening with suggested list of programs(Wordpad,Notepad)-NO good. Looked in manual-no info.

Just a bit more information first, You successfully installed Word Perfect 8 but when you try to open a wpd document, it only lets you choose notepad or wordpad?

It gives a list of options that includes those two or to go on-line and see if there is anything. Tried and got nothing.

Answer

When you Right click the WPD file, and choose "Open with..." and then choose "Other" there you should be able to browse to the WP exe file that will open them. This is usually under:

C:\Program Files\Corel\Word Perfect

Ryan: Haven't tried it so don't know. I've gone to All Programs and never saw /Core/Word Perfect. Can I try it and then get back to you? I'm an 80 yr.old man and not too sharp on the techo stuff. Also, why do I not get an icon on my desktop so I can click and write a document? If I try this I'll have to leave this site I believe. Correct?

You can bookmark this page in your internet browser so you can come back here.

I would like you to first install Word Perfect Again, Insert your WP disc into the drive and install the program again, then once it completes restart the computer and try to open the WP files again, or see if the WP icon is on the desktop.
