Hi there Ming_Cat,

Thank you for your question regarding your 6 male Siamese who has been coughing as well as having a runny nose and gooky eye. As you can imagine there are a number of potential causes for this including cat flu (hopefully he is up to date with vaccinations), a foreign body in the throat or sinuses, or even hairballs as it sounds as though you may be suspecting! You have also wormed him which helps rule out lungworm. I would definitely recommend you try treating this boy for hairballs first and foremost and if there is no improvement or his condition worsens, then I really would encourage you to get him to the Vet to ensure he doesn't have cat flu.

In order to try and keep on top of this problem, you really need to brush this kitty out on a day to day basis. It would also be a wise idea to put him onto a hairball diet (Hill's and Iam's brands have this) as well as giving a teaspoon of cooking oil on some wet food 2 - 3 times per week. This helps coat the hair and drag it out through the GI tract. You can also buy a product called catlax which also helps remove this hair and some cats find very tasty.

If his eye is quite gooky and he has quite a runny eye - this is much more likely to be cat flu - in which case you really do need to get this boy for a check over and appropriate antibiotics as soon as possible.

If you have any further questions or concerns about this cat, please be sure to reply won't you. Keep an eye on him and do get him to the Vet in the next few days if these symptoms are ongoing.
