Yes you certainly can do give your cabinets an antique glaze with stain. Also it doesn't need to be an oil base but that is okay. There is a couple of things to deal with however. One being the areas you plan on giving the antique look to will need a little prep work. I assume your going to apply the antique look to the inside edges of the panels and/or maybe some touches along the frame fronts. These areas will need to lightly sanded with some very fine sand paper or steel wool. Steel wool will work better if the places in the cabinet recesses are ornate. Doesn't take much but enough to slightly remove the enamel hardness on the surface. For a final professional appearance you will want to use the Minwax clear coat in the high gloss. For the best overall look you should first do the antiqued areas, let dray and then do the entire door.
