Hello,
I am so sorry for your loss,
I will try my best to help but please know that only a necropsy(same as a human autoposy)will be able to tell for sure.
Just a few questions?
Did they do x-rays at the emergency room?
Were there any medical problems before the seizure?
she had xrays ...i don't have the paperwork to refer to. the vet described her lungs as smashed grapes (or angry alveoli ) full of liquid and that diuretics were not having any effect. i can get more info tomorrow if you'd like. she had a seizure a short while ago, but it was over in seconds. ruby lost her balance for a moment but snapped back quickly. my daughter woke up to ruby's seizure. she said ruby was laying stiff on her side and foaming at the mouth.
she was a rescue dog. the previous owners dressed her in doll clothes and carried her around all the time. her growth was stunted and she had an abnormal spine formation which made her look a little crooked. she was very small for her breed. until she came to live with me, she never ran on grass or socialized with other animals. i have 2 dobies and 2 chihuahuas.......she learned how to play and run.....she was so happy. i wasn't completely sure that she wouldn't survive......could i have saved my little girl? thank you for taking the time........my heart is so broken......
Ok, thank you for the information,
Was she placed on fluids at the vet if so do you know how much?
Do you know if her growth was stunted from birth or due to lack of care?
Why was she given up by her previous owner?
Sorry for all the questions, since I did not see her this is my only way of evaluating the situation
she was given fluids......again my paperwork is unavailable. i will have the info tomorrow
she was not born a runt.... she was never allowed to run or.exersise.......the breeder went to rescue ruby when she found out how she was being taken care of and made mention on how small she was.....she believed it was from being carried around all the time. my daughter has one of the breeder's dogs who is healthy as a horse.
may i touch base with you tomorrow with all the info from the vet and emergency clinic?
i can fax it to you if you'd like. thank you Candy....
i have to go home now..................i will get in touch tomorrow if that's o.k. with you.
thank you again
i accept where the heck is that option?
I did not answer your question yet so there is no accept button.
That option will appear when I feel as if I have answered your question to the best of my ability.
I look forward to speaking with you.
i have all the paperwork. may i fax it to you at your convenience?
thank you Candy
I have to go off line for a short time if you could let me know the results from any blood work, notes on x ray findings(including all abnormalities) and medications given.
Type of fluid administered and rate(how much)
Were the x rays taken at the ER or the next day at the regular vet.
i sent you all the paperwork.....i hope you received it....let me know if you didn't
thank you !
No I did not get the information they may be to large to go thru, try using the green tree icon and resend maybe 1 at a time, or you can go to a free picture hosting site put them on there and send me the link that may work better.
CAN YOU SEE THIS ONE?
I SENT THE FILE TO CUSTOMER SERVICE. I ASKED THEM TO FORWARD IT TO YOU. I CAN'T DO IT ANY OTHER WAY. I IT DOESN'T WORK, I'LL HAVE TO GO ELSEWHERE. I'M SORRY
Ok,
I just got the paperwork give me some time to review and I will get back with you.
All the paper work tells me is what procedures they did, but does not give me any results. You may have to request the record from your vet.
I do have some thoughts on the case.
You sad her growth was stunted due to being carried around. I my experience especially with small breeds carrying them around and dressing them in clothes does not cause growth retardation. Many people carry their small pets around. You also stated she had a malformation of the spine, this also would not be caused by carrying her around.
I would suspect that either the breeder was not totally truthful in their reason for taking back the pet, or they were unaware of the medical problems.
Those two things alone would lead me to believe that this baby has had problems from birth. It is also very possible that there were other physical or neurological defects that were not noticeable.
While it is rare as your vet said seizures can cause pulmonary edema. The fact that the medication had no effect would also lead me to believe there were under lining health conditions, such as a malformed heart or undiagnosed heart conditions.
Please rest assured that you did nothing wrong, you did everything you could for her, and gave her a fighting chance. I am sure you made her short life a good one.
If you would like to send the records I would be glad to review them for you.
i'm glad you were able to get the records, but it seems that they didn't tell you everything. what are you looking for specifically? should we pursue this further? your thoughts were pretty much the same as mine were however, i was surprised you thought she was not in good shape since birth. i really thought the lack of exercise and being held all the time had stunted her growth........i met the breeder (audrey) where i work. i don't feel that she knew what was going on with ruby. her husband had told her about ruby's living conditions and audry got her back. she was extremely upset and was convinced the the previous owners had something to do with her physical condition. she wanted to find ruby a good home at no charge........when ruby was spayed, audrey wanted to pay for the proceedure. Audrey also wanted to pay the $1,400.00 vet bill.
we split the cost......i was really grateful. i have one more question....was there any chance that ruby could have survived this?
I am glad to hear you actually have a breeder you can trust. She sounds great.
It is very possible she had no idea that ruby had any problems, and honestly felt that ruby being carried around was causing her problems. I think the fact that she went and got ruby back was a sign that she really cares. If you can send me what was found on x ray(dr's words) and any blood work results
Spines do not just become malformed, Your vet would have been able to tell if this was injury related. That combined with the stunted growth as I said would lead me to believe she possible had other underlining problems that could not be seen.
Unfortunately because we do not know the cause or whether there were other malformations of the organs, or the brain,I can not tell you if ruby could or could not have survived this. The pulmonary edema was not able to be control so I think you did the best thing. In life they are our friend always there to listen and give licks when ever needed, when their time draws near it is then our turn to be a friend to them. You were a great friend when she needed it most.
I am so sorry for your loss and hope you can again some day open your heart to another who needs you.
Please read the Rainbow Bridge if you have not done so.

a friend of mine gave me a copy of rainbow ridge. i hope it's true...........i have taken up much of your time on this and i appreciate all you have done. i would like to increase the fee to $50.00 .....if we can do that, i would be grateful.
i feel that you are correct in believing that ruby had other issues...........i wish i could have done more to predict this. i can't go back, i know that.........i'm not going to request more documents....................thank you candy...........let me know if we can increase the fee............take care
I hope I have helped you feel better about your decision.
You can increase the fee and I thank you very much you just can do so by adding a bonus when asked. I believe this is done when you press the accept butten
Please let me know if you ever get a new fur baby.
