Question

I have a whirlpool electric dryer(model # gew9868kl2) that is about 5 years old. The dryer has been in 4 different homes and never given a problem. I built new home and moved into it April 09. About 6 weeks later the electronic board went out. It was replaced and lasted about 3 months and electronic board went out again. I had it replaced again and it lasted only two days(two cycles). I am at a lost as to what could be causing this. Please help.

Answer

Sounds like you are getting to much voltage on each leg....Should only be 110 each leg...You may be getting a power surge...Bob

do not accept- voltages are within tolerances of 120vac line

Answer

Master Tech is 100% correct ,this control will not and cannot handle over 125 volts A/C to it .

The electronic control components are not designed for the much voltage .

Engineering states if is not an issue of will it take out a control but WHEN will it take out a control .

We (Whirlpool) deals with this all the time in the Chicago Area at times they can have voltages as high as 128 volts and have even seen some areas as high as 130 volts

Just got dryer repaired. The problem had nothing to do with any of the answers that you suggested. All that you did was to jump on the one item that I mentioned that I checked(which was incoming voltage) that had nothing to do with the problem. I was hoping that you would give a list of possible solutions that could be checked.

The problem was with faulty ground- had nothing to do with voltage. You have charged my credit card without my acceptance. I contest this charge and reguest that you refund my account.

Have never seen where a faulty ground would cause the board to go out....Was the ground faulty on the washer or was it at fault where the house wiring was installed..?..Your account has not been charged by the way...Bob
