I own a 2004 xc 90 My Check engine light is on and when i hit the gas i can hear the car whistle this morning i hit the gas and the car shook a little bit. I own a code reader so I hooked it up and it gave me two codes p2190 and p2188

Hello and thank you for your question....

The codes indicate mixture too rich at idle. This could be a mass air flow meter problem, or a vacuum leak. The hesitation/roughness indicates that there should be an easy thing to find. There are no known issues with regards to this as of now.

I would suspect the mass air flow meter but can not be sure without a global read out of all the systems codes and parameters through the ecm etc.

Is this something i can find and fix my self? or do i need to take it to the dealer? would the whistle sound indicate a different problem? is the Mass air flow meter an expensive repair

Yes the mass air flow meter is an expensive repair, running about $500. As to the whistle, if its a vacuum leak, you might be able to fault trace that yourself. If you find that there is a vacuum leak that will give you those exact codes. As well a vacuum leak can cause a misfire or roughness. You would have to try to locate the source of this whistle to determine if this is something or not you could tackle.
