Question

I have a 2003 Volvo, V70 T5, Manual transmission which sometimes fails to start when I engage clutch & turn the ignition. Battery & conections tested full charge w/ volt meter. Clutch position sensor (CPS)was increasing problomatic & was replaced last week (chip broken on the previous sensor). Purchsed CPS from Volvo dealer. Installed it myself, properly. After installation, the car ran fine, with improved shifting for approx 18 hours, then failed start again. As before removed CPS & jumped the two wires of the green electronic swich which plugs into CPS. I have done this before successfully to start the car. The last time, two days ago, with new CPS in place, this method did not worok, but got solid "click" when engagine ignition. Car was towed to repair shop where mechanic reports vehicle starts every time. Please provide full list of possible reasons for sporatic failure to stare w/ possible solutions--FRUSTRATED!!

Accepted Answer

Well there are several things that could cause your latest concern.

Starter motor not working properly
Immobilizer not recognizing the key
Antenna ring (part of the immobilizer fault)
Starter motor relay
Corroded trigger wire for the starter
Ignition switch failure....
After that I can not imagine any other possibilities.

Thanks. The problem was the starter motor. The starter motor has been replaced and the vehicle seems to be operating properly. Appreciate your help.
