Question

Good afternoon - I recently picked up a 2009 s60 2.5T and noticed some vibration especially when accelerating - this same problem occures whether I have my summer of winter tires on (both set have their own rims). The car appears to role very smoothly but starts to vibrate when power is applied. Any help would be appreciated. When the car is in neutral and gas is allpied, the engine revs very smoothly with no vibration at all. The only this I can think of is possbily a transmission issue. Regards.

Check Engine Light? If not I would suggest:
Checkng your front CV Axles. Worn inner joint will cause this sympton. Have that checked first.

Thank you - the engine light is not on and being a 2009 model would suspect that a 'worn inner joint'. Could this however be an error is equipment spec or faulty assembly ?

It is kind of early for a problem with the CV Axle. How many miles on your car? JB

You are correct the car should be able to handle this.

I still would have them look at this.. CV Jim

I have approx 11,000km.

This additional info may help: as I recall, the car was running really well ( no vibration at all) for the first 1000km, then while highway driving, I had to come to sudden stop do to traffic issue up ahead. The breaking was smooth and the car tracked well under hard breaking. But as soon as I got going again, that's when I noticed the vibration. I'm not certain if this is coincidental as the breaking applied would seem to be well within the performance standards of the car.

One last thought.. does it vibrate through the steering wheel, floor pan ... It still should be covered under warranty correct...? If it is floor pan then I would be looking at engine and drivetrain components... If steering then.. wheel balance, axles, steering rack or mounting bushings.

Hope this helps.. Let me know what you found..

Best to you... Jim

Thanks for the new info - the steering wheel appears to be fine.

I would say that the vibration is coming from the seat (suspect that this would also be the same as the floor pan). The vibration is slight at highway speed but is extremly noticable when power is applied when going up a steep hill.

Although still under warranty, there seem to be a certain reluctance from the dealer to seek out the problem. The dealer seems happier to once again rebalance my tire to see if that works.

If it is in the floor then more than likely it is not in the wheels unless it is from a rear tire. Usaully floor pan is drivetrain. Thanks again. Jim B
