Question

i myself have had bipolar for more than twenty years. My daughter who now is 30 and has it also. She gets to point of hitting, burning doing dangerous things to herself. I'm afraid she will go to far one day and be hospitalized or even dead. I can't help with money as i'm living on social security and barely get by. She is a single mother and is trying very hard to get through beauty school, raise her child and try and keep a roof over there head. She needs help badly. Can you direct her to get some help first with someone diagnosing her problem and suggest a treatment.. She is on state aid so money is our biggest problem. Her doctor gave her a prescription for Seroquel but at 175 dollars for a months supply she cannot afford it. She has been on zoloft but doesn't help much. I use lithium and valium once a day and am most of the time in control of the disease. We live in the fort myers, cape coral florida area. Can you please suggest someone that would care enought to help?

Hi Butch,

Here is a listing of local agencies She can go to one of the county funded mental health agencies to get diagnosed and receive prescriptions for her medicines. That she is already on state aid will help her gain entry into the system.

Walgreens and WalMart now offer many mental health drugs on their $4 plan, so she can talk to the psychiatrist about which ones are the cheapest. I think if she finds someone she can work with, things will get better.

I've listed some other links that you might find usefull below.

Good for you that you've got a handle on your illness - it can be a struggle to find the right treatment, and you can convey that hope to your daughter.

If I can be of further help, please let me know.
