Question

i have a 2003 h2, when i turn the key in the key cylinder,,,, i get nothing. if i drop the ignition switch, i can start it with my thumb by rotating the gear type assembly. is my key cylinder bad? and also, sometimes when i dom turn off the truck and take out the key( this was prior to my key cylinder not working) my battery light stays on.and so, what r my options, and costs associated with this.
i just purchased this hummer less than a week ago from a dealership in nova scotia, are they required by law(say a 30 day warranty) to service this issue.

Answer

Hello XXXXXXXXXXXX, Welcome to justanswer!

When you have the ignition switch removed from the back of the lock cylinder, look at the tab that fits into the switch. Make sure that the tab is turning when you turn the key in the cylinder. If it is not, you have a bad lock cylinder. It definately sounds like you have a bad lock cylinder.

A bit of advice if you intend to take it to a shop or the dealer for repair. You may want to call a locksmith out to take a look at it. Usually a locksmith can rebuild or repair a bad lock cylinder for a fraction of what the deal would charge.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with

Thanks,

Todd

I am not familiar with the law where you are but I would definately ask them if they would take care of it for you. Replacing the switch is a fairly easy replace and the part lists for $40 at the dealer. If I was the dealer that sold you that truck I would replace it solely on a customer satisfaction basis since you would be far more likely to refer future business to them.
