just buying boat..owner tried to start at dock pror to sea trial..both engines fired up, but port engine could not sustain idle

i believe the engines are EFI, but dont know at what rpm the engine will sustain idle, also dont know what issues in the past, owner denies prior problems, owned boat since new

form '98....is this a deal killer?

This can be caused by several things,idle to low,poor quality fuel,igntion problem(cap and rotor)or maybe it needs a good tune-up.We need to know what engine it is,carb or EFI,what horsepower and what drive system,inboard or I/O.This shouldn't be a deal killer,if the problem is resolved,by the owner,and the sea-trial is a success,the problem could be simple or more involved,without being there it is hard to determine,at 600 hours,are the manifolds and risers original,if so they will need to be checked,you should have a Marine Mechanic check the engine's before you buy the boat,it will be money well spent.Let me know if I can help any,where are you calling from.
