have an Acer Netbook which lost its connectivity to my home wifi? any ideas on how to repair?

Already Tried:
rebooting, establishing a new network connection and setting changes. I added an HP Printer just ahead of this...suspect corrupted file(s).

To start with.. look on the bottom right of your desktop by your clock..

Do you see an icon down there that looks like two tvs or monitors on top of each other..?

Does it also have a red X on it?

Please right click on that and click connect to a network..

Now click the tab, so it says show all..

tell me if you see any networks now..

The only network showing is hpsetup. There are several within range. Also McAFee reports that the system is vulnerable. Fixing the problem returns an error. Last night I installed an HP Officejet J4680 to be share by 4 computers. The Acer is just a user of the printer driver and not the main. Wiithout a LAN Cable the Acer has noway to communicate with the outside world.

Please press and hold down your windows key, and then press the pause break key..

Now click on device manager..

And then look under network adapters.. report to me the two you have listed there..

And also, is there any yellow or red signs by either one"?>

The device Manager shows both Wireless Net Adapter and PCI Lan which I have disabled for now,,,Red X... Also running IE8

Thanks but,,, you know the toughest problems can have the easiest answers. Ran IE it attempted to solve the problem unsuccessfully, but mentioned that some laptops have a button in the front disabling network connections.... Pushed the little bugger and now all is right with the world... Thank You for the help...

Thats why i was asking you what the exact model was.. The setting in device manager was telling me that the wireless probably wasnt functioning, my next suggestion after getting the model number would have been to turn on the wireless and if that didnt work reload the driver..

Since you did make a deposit after all, i feel i shold help you out some..

I have two free programs for you that work wonders on keeping computers fast and free of viruses and adware..

The first is malwarebytes.. Its a free virus and adware and trojan scanner and remover..

please download the free version, install, and then run the full scan one night before you go to sleep, in the morning, it will show you a list of the viruses it has found.. And allow you to remove them. ( this is not one of those fake helper programs that find a bunch of so called errors and then charge you to remove the faux errors..)

The next program is called cc cleaner..

It is a registry sweeper that will fix error in the windows registry inproving startup speed and overall stability of the computer..

Please download, install, and then one night before you go to sleep, run it and perform the full scan. you will then be able to wake up, and then have it fix any erros it finds for free..
