Are there any other pets in you home?
Has she been to a vet yet for an examination?

It will be much easier with her being the only pet. I would make sure she has had a feline leukemia test before you bring her home, though, as they can contract this at birth and it can really change things if the test is positive. Hopefully it won't be, though.
You can make her transition in to your home a little easier by using the same type of food that she is curently eating and making sure to use the same kind of kitty litter. Cats are not big fans of changes, but at her age you shoudn't have much trouble. If you decide to make any changes in either the food or litter, buy your new brnd and slowly begin adding it t the old brand over the course of several days.
I am sorry about the loss of your other cat, but since you have been a cat owner - you probably already know about keeping her parasite free to keep her comfortable with a deworming and flea preventive.
