Question

My computer is infected with the Nortel Antivirus Virus and I would like to get rid of it without losing any important files or damaging my computer.

My name is Ryan and I would like to assist you today. To remove the infection on your computer please do the following:

Alright please do the following for me:

1) Shut down your computer that is infected, then turn it on and immediately start tapping the F8 key until the advanced boot option menu screeen comes up and has options like safe-mode or safe-mode with networking. Now use your arrow keys on the keyboard to select safe-mode with networking then push enter and all your drivers will load and then you will be presented with a login screen. From here you can login like normal and then your desktop will popup and everything will be very big.

2) Now once you are logged in and it appears everything has loaded click on internet explorer go to the site http://www.malwarebytes.org then click on the blue download free version button on the left hand side. Then another page will load now click on the green download now button(don't purchase anything) and it should popup and ask if you wanna run or safe the file. Please click on run and then once downloaded follow the steps below to install and run the program.

To install Malwarebytes please follow the steps below:

  1. After downloading the program the Setup Language dialog box will appear. From the drop-down arrow, click the language you want.
  2. You will see Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Setup Wizard window, which should look similar to the following:

  1. Click Next. You will see the License Agreement dialog box.
  2. Click the radio button in front of I accept the agreement. You will see the Setup dialog box.
  3. In the Select Destination Location dialog box, click Next.
  4. In the Start Menu Folder dialog box, click Next.
  5. In the Select Additional Tasks dialog box, click Next.
  6. Click Install.
  7. After installation is complete, you will see the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Setup Wizard window again, which should look similar to the following:

  1. Click Finish, and then it will show that Malwarebytes is updating and installing the latest virus definitions. Then the main screen for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will appear, which should look similar to the following:

18. Now click on "perform full scan" and then click on scan and it should open a box with a list of your drives. Please click on your primary drive normally "c:/" then click ok and it should begin scanning.

19. Once the scan completes it will list all the infections, all you have to do is verify that they all have check marks next to them and then click on remove at the bottom left hand corner. Then it should begin quarantining them and may ask you to reboot your computer. Now just restart your computer and it will boot back into normal mode and everything should be working.

I downloaded Malwrebytes' Anti-Malware and ran the scan, deleted the infected files but I still have the same problem. That is the Nortel Antivirus Virus that has constant popups affecting my computer. Please help!

Alright thank you for the quick reply. Malwarebytes, is a very powerful scanner/cleaner that should have removed it. Did you run the scan in safe-mode with networking?

12. Now you will Be prompt to select a drive to scan, select your primary drive normally your c:/ drive and then select "perform complete scan" and then click on next and it should begin scanning for infections.

Hi Ryan,

 

I downloaded and tried the Superspyware scan and it came up with 241 infected files and items. I had them removed and then rebooted my computer. It appears to have worked. No more pop ups so far.
