Question

I purchased AN HP Z600 Workstation from you on 6-29-09. I have been trying to get it to work since I receibved it. The Optical Drive (CD-ROM) wont accept any of my CD's. I don't have a printer (HP Photosmart D7560) because the Z600 wont accept my CD. I don't have a scanner (HP scanjet 5470c) because the Z600 wont accept my CD. I can't use my Joy of Thinking (The Great Courses) because the Z600 Optical Drive wont accept my CD's. What magical formula must be applied to this f-----g Z600 before the Optical Drive will work?

Answer

Please try the following steps, one at a time. test the issue after each:

1
If you can access internet from the affected computer, then try the following link, scroll a little and click on Fix It (select the one under Windows XP)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Click Run in the File Download dialog box and follow the steps in the wizard.

Restart the computer and check the CD drive

2 If the above does not help, try the following:

Click Start-> Run
Type regedit and press enter.

In the registry editor, locate the following key in the left pane

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ->SYSTEM-> CurrentControlSet-> Control-> Class

Now locate the key {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and click on it

On the right pane you will see

"Upperfilters"
"Lowerfilters"

Right click on them and click delete.
Close Registry Editor

Restart your computer and check the CD drive.

If it does not help, please let me know so that we can try other possible methods.
