Hello, My name is XXXX. X can help you with this question.
Depending on the problem, it may be able to be repaired with the transmission still in the vehicle, and it may require removing the transmission and either overhauling or replacing it. You will need to get the problem accurately diagnosed before you know what the problem is.
Diagnosis charge is normally about an hour of shop labor. Once the diagnosis is made, the price will change accordingly.
Typically, you'll agree to about 10 to 12 hours of shop labor if the transmission has an internal problem. At that point the transmission is removed abd normally disassembled for inspection. At that point, a cost comparison will be done to see if it is cheaper to repair or replace the transmission. Prices will vary accordingly.

PErhaps you could contact the manufaturer and request assistance. This is not extremely common that you are having a failure at this mileage, but it's well inside the range where some manufacturers have some discretion as to weather you may get some assistance with this. That is the only thing you could try.
Make sure that this has been actually diagnosed. They may quote a new transmission just to save any diagnostic hassle, or every once in a while there is no one at that shop capable of re-building it. Make sure you undertand why they want to sell you a new transmission.
But anyhow, no. YOur vehicle should not need a new transmission at that age/mileage. But as with anything, there are exceptions and failures that are unplanned and uncommon.
I hope this answers your question.
Thank you,
It is not likely that a reputable dealer would sell you something that you don't need. It is never a bad idea to get a second opinion, or ask them to clarify their procedue if you are not sure.
Ask them if the price you are being quoted is for a new transmission, or if they are going to tear down the one that is in your vehicle and do a cost analysis on repair vs replacement.
When they are done with the job, tell them you want to see the old parts. Anything that does not have a core charge on it is yours to take with you.
That's about all you can do to cover yourself. I hope it works out well for you.
