Question

When I am stopped in traffic, my mini van seems like it is doing to die and the van actually will rock back and forth

I haven't tried anything yet...it just started today. It is a Mazda MPV - 2003 with about 90,000 miles.

If only acting up at idle then I suggest cleaning the throttle body and removing the idle air control motor and cleaning the idle air control motor and the bore it goes into. Clean all these items with carb cleaner. What happens over time is carbon builds up and causes the idle air control motor to stick and also carbon restricts the air flow.

would this cause it to rock back and forth...my daughter thought I was taking my foot on and off the brake it was rocking so much. Also is cleaning the throttle body and removing the idle air control motor something someone can do themselves or should I take it and have it done?

It is something that can be done at home and doesn't require taking to a repair shop.
