Question

Have an 88 Nissan Maxima wagon that is giving me intermittent problesm starting. It cranks then stops.. was told there was a sensor or something? Or to try putting in neutral. Problem getting worse. How hard is it to replace the sensor? Cost?

greetings,

It may be a relay if it stops cranking while you have ignition key in the start mode. the ascd cancel relay in the stater circuit, it is in front of the battery. I would try to swap with another relay. Here is the schematics and part locations.

Yes it does stop cranking while in start mode. thanks for the info on the relay, but when I open the diags there isn't anything displayed. Will try on my other pc at work.

You might also check if the shifter is loose. If the bushings are worn it could affect the contact of the park neutral switch. That is probably the sensor that you were told about.
