Have lived in hawaii 34 yrs. Being 85 and due to hip replacement ,gall bladder operation, 2 anneuryms with stents, doctor recommended wife and I to move closer to family on mainland. lived temporarily with son in florida while looking for retirement home . We left hawaii in Oct. 08 and sold house in Hawaii Mar. 09. Do I file a non resident tax form for 3 months[ Jan/Mar 09] N-15 . Also how is sale of house ,profit etc. reported on hawaii tax form?

You should file an part year resident return for HIand a part year resident return for yuor new state. (if they have an income tax).

 

It is actually the same form use for non-residents and part year residents: http://www.state.hi.us/tax/2008/n15_i.pdf
