Hello, Trina, and thanks for your question.

It's possible that your kitten is beginning an eye infection or he has a tiny piece of debris in his eye which is irritating it. He also may have gotten a scratched cornea or other injury, while playing with your other cat. A clear discharge is better than a colored one (like yellow, green, brown), as that can be more indicative of infection.

Your kitten needs to be evaluated, diagnosed and treated by the vet. If he is found to have an eye infection, yes, this IS contagious to your older cat, so keep them separated. The vet will prescribe antibiotic eye drops and/or ointment, and and tell you when you can allow them to hang out together, again.

For the moment, continue to gently wipe the discharge away with a cotton ball dampened with warm water; use a new cotton ball each time. Also, wash your hands thoroughly before and after wiping your cat's eye. Eye infections can be transmitted to humans, in some cases.

I hope all will be well with your cat once he's diagnosed and treated by the vet.
