Question

I have a 6 year old female Rottweiler. She started with loose stools two days ago, today being the third day. I found her "grazing" in our garden one day last week. As the gardening season is finished, I am not sure what she got into. Nothing poisonous I do not believe. There was some vegetables we were letting "compost". I have been giving her cooked rice with her dog food for two days. Today, I started just plain rice....no dog food and have not allowed her to run free in the yard so she has not been in the garden. She is drinking double the normal amount of water, so I'm sure she is not dehydrating. She is not weak and is able to let me know when she needs to go out. Should I continue the "rice only" treatment, or is there something else I can do to help her.

Accepted Answer

ok,

I recommand adding boiled chicken to the rice besure to rinse the chicken after boiling to remove all fat. Feed her this bland diet for 2 days. The rice alone has no nutrients.

You can also give her a childs dose of immodium ad to help with the loose stool.and 1 tablet of pepcid ac to control stomach acid both can be given 2x daily for 2 days.

If she has any vomiting or continues to have loose stool after the 2 days I would recommand having her stool checked for intestional parasites

Please keep me posted on her progress
