Question

my 11 year old son has been taking Vyvanse for about a year now. He only takes it during the school year and it has helped him dramatically. Dosage 50mg/day. (started at 10 mg, but we & teachers didn't notice results until 50mg) He went from a disruptive, barely passing student to now being a top student with no behavior problems. Recently, however, he has developed a blinking eye tic that I'm thinking may be related to the vyvanse. He is currently on a lower dosage of dextroamphet (15mg) but the blinking tic continues, and the dextroamphet doesn't seem to be effective. Any suggestions? Thank you, Susan

Answer

Hello,

I am not a physician but am familiar with psychotropic medication. From several sources of anecdotal reports, it has been stated the eye blinking is a side effect and the reports unfortunately indicate that it is permanent and irreversible so a change in medication will not make it stop. I have included a few sites so that you may read further about this phenomena. www.addadhdblog.com/does-vyvanse-work/ , www.dailystrength.org/c/.../3673566-any-experience-vyvanse . There are several are in this vain from consumers. The manufacturer does not mention it in their material: www.addadhdblog.com/does-vyvanse-work/ . Best wishes and good luck.
