Can you describe these episodes a bit more? How often it occurs? Is it definitely from his nose? Any congested sounding breathing between episodes? Any coughing? Labored breathing? Do his gums/tongue stay 'pink' during these episodes?

Thanks for the quick reply. It certainly could be what is called a reverse sneeze. This takes most owners by surprise when they first hear it, as it sounds much more closely related to either choking or gagging than any form of sneezing. But reverse sneezing is normal and more common brachycephalic breeds (those with short muzzles, like Boxers). I've included a link here to explain about reverse sneezing: http://www.petplace.com/dogs/reverse-sneezing-in-dogs/page1.aspx Some vets feel it is allergy related. However, if it continues to occur and increase in frequency, there is also the possibility that something was inhaled (like a blade of grass) into the sinus cavity causing this reaction. Any discharge noticed after time would point to this possibility, as often infection starts to occur from this foreign material way up in the sinuses. A scoping of the cavity can often determine if inflammation is present and causing this issue. Let me know if I can help further. Christine
