Question

My wife has been a exemplary employee for a company for 3 1/2 years. She was recently up for the customer service manager job which has world wide responsibilities. She was labeled by her superiors as the #1 candidate. She did not get the job which she has accepted and moved on. In the last 2 months since the new manager has taken over, she has been attacked verbally by the new manager and berated in front of her co-workers by this person. Now, all of a sudden she can't do anything correctly in the eyes of this person. She went to H.R., as did many other employees because of her attacks on them as well. Friday, 10/02/2009 there was a meeting called with my wifes new supervisor, her supervisor and H.R. They have gone on a witch hunt to make her look now like she is inferior employee pulling up minor issues over the past 3 1/2 years to make her look like she is the attacking employee. She is admired through out the world for her excellent work and now is being verbally and mentally abuse

Is this due to her race, gender, age, nationality or religion?

No, none of the above. I believe that it is due to the fact that my wife is the go to person and has been for quite some time within the company and this new supervisor is threatened by it. The new manager is latino and her supervisor is german.

Accepted Answer

Legally it is not illegal unless based on one of the categories I asked about. She could complain to senior management about it but no outside agency or lawsuit available here.
