Info Request

Hello,
Are you sexually active? Have you ever had any STDs? Is there any new partner recently? Do you have any discharge?

Reply

Yes, I am sexually active and according to my one sex partner I am the only one. In the past I have had chlamydia before. Lastly, there is no odor or irregular discharge.

Answer

If you are in monogamous relationship and never had any other type STD then this swelling is less likely to be related to STD. Some of the possible causes are allergy or bartholin cyst which develops due to blockage of duct. Many times if the swelling is small and not causing much symptoms, can be managed at home by conservative measures. You can take pain meds, do sitz bath, use warm tube, wear cotton undergarments. If the swelling increases or you develop severe pain, then you will have to visit your doctor.

I have had a bartholin cyst before and these are small bumps at the opening not one big lump under the skin.

Accepted Answer

When bartholin cyst are bigger you can feel it under skin, but the actual location of the bartholin cysts are just at the side of vaginal opening. Whenever the swellings are small, you can find it at the vaginal opening. The next alternative are allergy, which could be due to undergarment, spray, perfume, detergent, soap.
