Question

I'm havinb a problem with Adobe Flash Player crashing IE7, I tried Mozilla and it did the same. I think my problem is an entry in my registry, and included it below, but don't know what to do with it. Missing or invalid key The key, "CLSID\{1171A62F-05D2-11D1-83FC-00A0C9089C5A}\InprocServer32," refers to a missing file, "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash9b.ocx."

Answer

The best thing to do would be to upgrade to versioon 10 by downloading and doing a new install. You can get the current version here:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP

Download the latest player and install.

If the error is preventing you from going there because of flash content, you can disable the automatic running of the old flash player by doing the following:

Slect Tools>Manage Add-ons from the IE menu. On the management screen, select downloaded programs, and in the right pane, look for adobe flash or adobe shockwave flash. Click on it and then click the disable button in the lower right hand corner.

I don't have any flash player, it looks like this ref to flash player 9 which i don't have in my computer, I have loaded flash player 10 mulgiple times. and it starts up and then crashers, I think be cause this is in my registry. I have used an old version of systemworks and it finds the issue, but cannot fix it.

Answer

Have you tried disabling the add-on with the instructions above? It is possible to have the Flash AciveX player installed in your browser without having installed the flash player intentionally. There are two different installs that take place - the Flash Player and the Flash Player ActiveX.

You can also go to this link and download the Flash Player uninstall - released to address problems similar to this:

Sorry I did not get back to you sooner, I work nifhtts and had to leave early for a 14 hr shift yesterday.

I have done the flas uninstaller many times and tried it twice more since your suggestion, and the registry still shows the ref to a non existant file.

Have you tried this? It was in my post a while back.

Slect Tools>Manage Add-ons from the IE menu. On the management screen, select downloaded programs, and in the right pane, look for adobe flash or adobe shockwave flash. Click on it and then click the disable button in the lower right hand corner.

Answer

If that doesn't work, I think it's time to go into Regedit, search for that CLSID, and delete the key.

If the file isn't there anyway, I don't see it causing any negative effect.
