Could a normally dry basement start having water after 2 large trees near the foundation have been cut down

If cutting down the trees is the only change since the water started showing up in your basement then the tree removal is a likely culprit. The trees could have diverted water away from your basement or the roots could be rotting now allowing a path for water into your basement.
