Question

my english mastiff started to loose weight, i thought it was because he was not eating his dry dog food because i was mixing it with cooked meat, hamburger, rice etc to supplement his diet instead of commercial wet food but he would pick and only eat the table food...no surprise. I backed off on the table food, i thought he wasn't getting enough nutrients because he started to loose weight. He's had skin rashes so we did try different dog foods, i.e. no chix, all rice & veg's, brands etc but always buying a premium brand i.e. science diet, iams, eukenuba. He started to gain weight back but it's all in his stomache and he's loosing muscle. You can see his spine, he's lethargic but eats and drinks, pee's etc.

ok,

The first thing I would recommand is having him tested for intestional worms as this can be the leading cause of weight loss in dogs and will cause a fat tummy.Worms can also cause anemia and other health issues and can lead to the death of a pet. You may be able to just drop off a stool sample at your vet.

If you place him on heartworm prevention such as heartguard this will also deworm for intestional worms monthly.

I would also recommand finding a food he likes and sticking with it, it can cause extreme stress on a dog gastrointestional tract when you switch foods. Dogs do best when maintained on a regular diet.

I suspect he probably has intestional worms which are causing him to not absorb all the nutrients in the food.

You should have this checked as soon as possible
