Question

I am having problems with my new 2 month old Persian kitten. She is very very thin and you can feel the bones sticking out (400g or 0.881849 lb). The first 2 days in her new home she didn't eat hardly anything...2 licks of her wet cat food and that was that, she drank water and urinated but took and passed no solids. The first day I just put it down to the shock of being in a new place but by the second day I was worried and took her to the vet. The vet said she looked OK, eyes bright etc but skinny so she gave me Royal Canin Recovery to give to her via a feeding syringe. After pretty much force feeding...diarrhea started and she became extremely lethargic. I took her to the vet again and the vet told me she was fine and to continue the treatment. The quality of her hair and her energy levels has dropped drastically, she has also vomited at least once. What could be wrong with her? Am I being paranoid or should I take her to another vet?

Pet's Sex: Female
Pet's Age: <1

Already Tried:
I've tried everything to stimulate her apetite. Royal Canin Wet food, dry food, minced meat, minced chicken and even tried to give her baby cat milk formula to give her some nutrients. The vet has given me Royal Canin recovery but it caused diarrhea and vomitting.

Good morning, I just have a few questions so I can assist you

Whas she checked for worms or internal parasites.

Was she tested for feline leukema or feline aids.

She apparently was de-wormed at the breeder's and the parents are free from feline leukemia and FIV.

Accepted Answer

ok, yes she needs to go back to the vet, the fact that she is still not eating means she is not ok.

I would request my vet get alittle more aggressive in finding the problem and not continuing to say she is fine.

It is very dangerous for a cat to go more then 2 days with out eating, after that their organs (Kidney and Liver)begin to show signs if shut down.

It is also very common for cats who have been force fed to acquire a food aversion so that should be the last resort.

Try appyling a small amount of pancake or kyro syrup to her gums to bring her blood gluclose up which I am positive is low due to lack of eating. Low blood sugar will cause her to become more lethargic and can be fatal

Even though your breeder says they dewormed her I would still request a stool sample to check not only for worms but other intestional parasites.

Ciproheptadine is an amazing drug used to stimulate a cats appetite so I would ask your vet about that. Some vets also use valium as an appetite stimulant.

I do not like to disagree with a vet but your baby is very obviously not fine so you must be her advocate and demand that they find the cause.

I will be online all day please keep me posted on her condition
