Question

I have a 97 Jayco 5th wheel. The Power slide quit working a couple months ago, and have been using the crank out. I have since learned that the battery is bad. I just moved the camper home from the deer lease, and when I got home, it wont crank out. It appears to be just free wheeling.

Info Request

Hi XXXXXX, my name is Dale. I believe I can help you with your question, but I'll need just a bit more information.

Off the top of my head I believe your slide out system was manufactured by Power Gear, but I hope you can confirm that.

Is it possible for you to provide me with a picture of the motor/gearbox/manual override assembly?

Thank You,

Dale W.

Yes, I will need to remove the access panels when I get home from work. I am going to buy a new battery today. Im sure I know where the motor is. Im unsure about the gear box and override assembly. The moter is on the slide side of the camper forward. There is a Black box aft of this that the crank bar goes into. Im unsure of where the gearbox is. It was working fine till a couple months ago. It was at my deer lease, so I just used the crank to bring it in and out. I brought it home to sell, but when someone came to look at it yesterday, the hand crank just turns and turn almost like it is free wheeling. How do I go about sending you the pictures?

Thank you for the reply. To upload pictures, click on the icon that looks like a computer screen next to the red you tube icon. That will allow you to insert or edit an image.

The thing I want to be sure of is to properly identify what system you have so that I can provide you with an accurate answer. I appreciate your understanding.

Thank You,

Dale, these are the pics you requested. I put a new battery in, and can hear the motor running, but it is not turning the shaft. I want to reinterate that the power slide working is not near as imporatnt as being able to crank it out by hand which it wont do since I moved it home.
Thanks
Ron

Great Pictures! Thanks. It appears this is a Dewald electric slide out. Give me just a couple of minutes to find my drawings.

Thanks.

OK...My drawings don't show an exploded view of the manual override. However, looking at the 2nd picture, the smaller square tube is going to be the manual override extension, the opposite end is where you attach the crank handle.

I'm going to apologize in advance for covering some things you've probably already checked.

Manual override troubleshooting:

Verify the manual override extension is rotating when you turn the handle.

Where the square tube attaches to the shaft at the black box, confirm the long pin that's right next to the end of the square tube is turning when your turn the crank handle. This is to identify or rule out a broken pin or broken override shaft.

Remove the bottom cover on the manual override housing. (there should be nuts or bolts to remove this.) Inspect the shaft and pins inside for damage or breakage.

My suspicion is a pin or shaft has broken.

Motor troubleshooting:

Have a helper operate the motor while you look at the coupler and motor output shaft. If the shaft turns, but the coupler does not, the attachment pin is broken. If the motor shaft does not turn, internal motor damage. If both the shaft and the coupler turn, but the gear shaft on the slide out does not, it's either a broken pin or shaft.

Please let me know if I can clarify anything for you.

Thank You,

Dale W.
