don't know how it goes away. Only appears at night though and also affects buttocks and groin area. Doesn't bother me during the day.

No I am not diabetic. At least not diagnosed as one.

No investigations done yet. There does not appear to any surface skin irritation.

I work around metal mostly steel so oils and metal dust are everywhere

Accepted Answer

Hello,

The metal dust and oil can cause irritation and may be responsible for the itching. People who work in a very dry atmosphere also have night itching. The other causes are;

1) Stress

2) Anxiety

3) Fungal infection

4) Scabies

5) Kidney ailments

6) Thyroid dysfunctions

7) Liver disorders

A physician visit and blood work would give the clue to the diagnosis. You may try following meanwhile;

1) Application of calamine lotion

2) Benadryl tablet; this may help it is due to allergy

Both of them are over the counter.

Please read this resource for the causes;

Please feel free for your follow up questions.
