Question

I have a black cat. Recently while rubbing his neck, I found 3 to 4 red scabs (Very small) He has lost some hair around the area and appears to have a small bald spot. What could this be?

Hi wibopillu, Welcome to Just Answer. Is your little one indoors only? Do you have him on flea preventatives? Is he scratching at these spots? Dr. Bruce

Indoor only. It doesn't seem to bother him at all, even when I am touching them. No scatching.

Would bacitracin help??

Accepted Answer

As far as what these spots could be - 1) Small areas of bacterial dermatitis. Skin infection due to trauma of sorts. This could benefit from the topical bacitracin as long as its a spot that can't be licked. It doesn't do much good if it is groomed off immediately after being applied. 2) Area of mite infection. 3) Area of ring worm infection. With it having scabs - I'd be most suspicious of the bacterial dermatitis. IF the lesions are spreading or getting worse, I'd definitely have him looked at to determine what is going on. Dr. Bruce
