Hi XXXXXXX, my name is Dale and I have an answer for you. You don't state what V8 engine is installed but I'm guessing it's the 440. If the distributor is mounted at the front, then that is correct.

The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The distributor rotation is counter clock wise.

If the distributor is at the rear, your engine is a small block. The firing order remains the same, but the distributor rotation changes to clockwise.

Your distributor cap will be marked with the number 1 cylinder location.

I trust this helps.

Thank you for the opportunity to assist.

Sincerely,

Dale W.
