Question

Just aquired a boat from a friend with a 135hp mercruiser inboard outboard. It is on a 1997 Caravelle. The boat will idle fine but will shut off once you place it into drive. He said that it happened once before and he replaced the plugs and it fixed the problem for a short time. When I say short time I am talking about 12 hours or so. Any ideas?

Welcome to JA it could be the shift interrupt switch on the shift bracket also. What it does is kill the spark for a second while the drive engages gear. Or it could be the carb needs a rebuilt also

I am a certified low voltage tech and could probably work on replacing the switch myself. Where would you suggest I get one from.

it is on the motor, usually starboard side on mercs
it might need an adjustment
i would recommend a factory service manual if you plan on working on the boat
we can not post manuals on here, against the rules
