Hello slowdriver (Steve), Starting with 2008, there's a new zero percent tax rate on long-term capital gains. The zero percent rate applies to individuals who are in the 10% and 15% marginal tax brackets. The zero percent rate is scheduled to expire at the end of 2010, when capital gains rates will increase to at least 15%. Real property will be taxed either as a short-term capital gain, long-term capital gain, or ordinary gain, depending on how you used the property. After 2010, the long-term capital gains tax rate will be 20% (10% for taxpayers in the 15% tax bracket). The Tax Foundation site publishes information on capital gains from 1988 - 2011. Here is a link to their site and the page: http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxdata/show/2088.html I sincerely hope this information is helpful,
