Question

i would like to change all of the ceiling lights in my home from brass to an updated color. I don't have enough money to replace everything at one time What would be a good color to use that will coordinate with what I currenlty have?

Hello XXXXXXXXX, and thank you for your question.

Finishes that are currently popular, that can coordinate nicely with brass, include oil-rubbed bronze, antiqued brass, or plain white.
It somewhat depends upon the type and style of lighting fixtures as to which of these would be the best choice. For example, if what you are replacing are primarily recessed ceiling fixtures then I strongly recommend white (it never goes out of style), whereas if you are replacing more decorative surface-mounted fixtures then a simple white or frosted glass fixture, with an oil-rubbed bronze finish for any metal accents, would work well with nearby existing brass fixtures.

I would recommend against choosing any silver-toned metal to go in the same rooms or general areas that will still have existing brass fixtures. For example, brushed or satin finished nickel, or stainless, though popular these days, are metallic tones that will not coordinate well with brass.
However, if you are replacing lighting throughout one whole room at a time, then it would be perfectly acceptable to use an entirely different metal in one room than another, as long as the rooms are not visually connected.
