Question

My 20 year old daughter received a ticket for minors in possession last night. She was not driving or near a vehicle but from what I am reading on the internet it is still mandantory to lose her license for a year. Is it possible to get community service and fine and have the case dissmissed? Or will she definintely lose her license because that is the mandatory punishemnt in California? She has never been in trouble before this is her first offense for anything.

Hi care,
Her license will probably be suspended for a period, but not necessarily one year. A lot depends on the judge. And it means a lot that this is the first offense, and also that she was not in a car.
A typical sentence is community service or an Alcohol Education class. Once either or both are completed, the license gets reinstated. So it is possible to get the license back within a few months or less.
Also, she may be able to get the license reinstated sooner (usually as a restricted license) if she can show that she needs to drive to get to school or work.
