Question

1994 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L SOHC (4G64) Just installed a new power steering pump, and I've been working on bleeding the power steering system to no avail. I can't find anything useful to help me do this, nothing is in the Chiltons and I can't find anything online. What is the best way to bleed the power steering system, pictures if you have them would be great.

Optional Information

Year: 1994
Make: Mitsubishi
Model: Galant SD
Engine: 4G64 (2.4L SOHC)

Already Tried:
Filling reservoir to full and turning wheels lock to lock, did that several times to no avail; left it overnight, helped a little but not enough; starting car and turning wheel with reservoir cap off, and also tried it at average 3K RPMs as per a recommendation I found online, alternator belt broke (I think I over-tensioned it)

What problem are you having, does it have assist and is just still noisy?

It does provide assist, it isn't as jerky as it was last night, meaning some of the air is out. And I know a belt is too tight or too loose, causing a squealing, but when I turn the wheel it turns into something more like a schlorping sound, which I'm thinking is foaming in the lines or air pockets, about 5 times a second ar around 750rpm

Hi, it sounds like you do have airated fluid, some cars can be a problem to bleed. You can try jacking the front up,the slowly turning the steeing wheel left to right with the engine off. This sometimes does a better job then doing it with the engine running. If you still have air, three is a method that uses a vacuum appled to the reservoir to draw the air from the fluid. you need a hand operated vacuum pump and a cap the fits over the revervoir filler hole. Here is some info on doing it this way.

Just replaced the alternator belt, and paid more careful attention to tension, going for something a lot softer than it was before, and it started up fine, no squealing, and no schlorping. So, it could have been it was almost done bleeding and the hour I waited was enough, or I could have been misidentifiying sounds, either way, it works fine now. Thanks!
