Question

I have a TMD22P-C with an Ms2 transmission. When in neutral and attempting to select forward, the transmission sometimes resists moving into forward, but once in it works fine. The cables appear connected properly with no slack. Fluid level is within spec. No unusual noises. Is this likely an adjustment problem, wear?

It is an MS2 transmission from a TMD22 Volvo Penta Diesel to a propeller shaft on a 42ft sailboat. If you're after the serial number, I'll have to get that tomorrow.

The fluid was drained and replaced two years ago, about 400 engine hours. It appears clean.

Accepted Answer

Hi,
If it it is the transmission i am thinking of than it could be a cable adjustment. In neutral the swivel that connects to the shift arm on the transmission should be centered in the slot [when it is in neutral] with no binding in the slot. Make sure when it .is shifted into forward the cable moves the shift lever all the way. If that all is fine and oil has been changed and correct, then it could be that the ramp which moves the clutch could be worn.
I hope this helps you.
Thanks for the opportunity to help.
Please let me know if this helps
Rick
