Optional Information

Pet's Sex: Male
Pet's Age: 2

Already Tried:
i have tried hand feeding and then giving the last bit in his bowl, when i do this he is not aggressive at all. I have tried taking his food away, but this doesn't work. I have tried talking and stroking him while he is eating but he still continues to growl and crouch over his bowl. I put the bowl in my lap this morning and there was no problem. He takes treats very neatly and softly from my hand.

Hi Terri,

He is a pit bull terrier, 2months 2weeks old and approximately 3 to 4kgs in weight. I am currently on holiday with my mother in law and she has two dogs, but my puppy is fed seperately to them and only sits with them when they get their evening treats (by hand). i have now had him for a month.

Thanks for your assistance

Dear friend,

Most pups have some food aggression due to being raised with siblings who tried tome grab the food first. Usually the mom teachs the pup manners before he leaves home but your boy may have been sent to you a bit early.

He is a baby now but you must stop this early before it becomes ingrained:

Feeding by had may be reinforcing this behavior. He needs to learn how to eat with a pack and the LEAVE IT command.
