Question

I have been having problems with bowel motions and it feels like my colon muscles are not working properly or there is a blockage. I am waiting for blood, urine and stool results(also been very skinny stools. I did a self examination this morning in the shower and it felt like there is a big bulge pushing on my colon, but it was not on the inside of the colon. Can you please help me. Nicki

Hi,
What symptoms do you have besides thin stools? Any constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, weight loss or change in appetite?

Yes I have been constipated and took lavatives last week to help that. I have an uncomfortable pain in my left side by my ovaries.

Accepted Answer

Okay, your symptoms are most probably due to constipation caused by inadequate fiber in diet. An abnormal mass in the rectum or anal canal is unlikely to be a cause for your symptoms.

Also a self rectal examiantion would not be very reliable, as the bulge could be fat deposits or the cervix. However a rectal examination by your doctor would be advisable to rule out polyps or hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids can commonly occur after long standing constipation. More information about the cause of your symptoms can be obtained form test results of the investigations that you have had. So you should follow up with your doctor as scheduled without worrying.

Regards.
