Question

My 3 year old labrador has just started salivating excessively in the last 4 hours. He is otherwise well, has eaten his dinner, bright eyes, no fever. He has not been out of the house/garden today so should not have picked up anything strange, any ideas?

Answer

This could be from excitement or smell of food or from feeling nauseous. You may want to give him some over the counter pepcid how much does he weigh?

He weighs 26kg. He has been bright and active today and had a really good run around and playtime in the garden about 4.30pm - he did not pick up anything and our garden is safe, at around 5pm he started excessive drooling and licking , I thought he was just anticipating being fed at his usual 6pm. He ate his food as usual and the salivating has just continued, though now he is just dripping and leaving puddles and has stopped trying to lick it away, but still seems well otherwise

Answer

Try giving him 1/2 of a 10mg Pepcid AC tablet Sounds like he is doing well otherwise, are his gums nice and pink?

Yes his gums are pink, what do you think this could be, he is not usually a drooly dog? What is in Pepcid as I do not have it I may have something similar?

Accepted Answer

Pepcid is Famotidine it is an antacid you can pick it up at any drugstore over the counter
